Story of the table-soccer, created by Lucien Rosengart (French):
We owe front wheel drive and seatbelts to him. One rainy day, Lucien Rosengart was at a loss. He had his grandchildren to entertain with no idea what he could do. He lived in the grand city of Marseille, where football was a sacred sport for many, and so he decided to create a miniature version of the game for the children to play inside. The first baby football was born in the 1930s. Between the two great wars it found a home in cafés around the country and offered people a moment of relaxation and friendly interaction. The players in the game take on a human-like form and are dressed in kits of blue, white and red as a proud reminder of the French invention! The base supports the game and acts as a green playing field so players can enjoy throwing the balls in the air. The game had to wait until the 1970s before it gained world renown, when the ‘players’ began to take on the national colours of other countries. Baby football then left the cafés and bars, migrating into family homes. Nowadays it is no longer considered a leisurely game, but is a competitive sport. For the past six years France has remained world champion, but she has a strong opponent in China since the Chinese people take the sport very seriously. Baby football has also been enthusiastically embraced by the English, who baptized the sport "Table Football" or "Table Soccer", except of course when they choose to add the "French touch".
